This is a great light to consider as a portable video light, it comes with a bag that is compact and holds all the accessories needed and it comes with a V mount battery and an adapter to use NPF batteries. The build quality for this light is great, it has a nice heatsink at the back that distributes the heat evenly and keep it cool, the plates that directs the light is metal and ridged and acts as a protection to the LED panel when storing in the bag, the plates do interfere with the rotation if you try to aim a very low angles, so it is better to remove the overall panels if you do want to light up a very low angles. The power switch has 2 types of power, battery, and corded DC power, with battery you can use V mount or NPF with the adapter included which expands your option and makes it easier to just use your NPF batteries. The light quality is very good, it is not as powerful for a very large area and it is not meant to be far from the subject that is being lit, it is more for product lighting or YouTube video light, you can do interview shots with this too but you have to keep the light close to the subject as possible if you need the maximum brightness. I usually use the light at 5600k as I always use it for natural colors, you can use the warm if needed which goes up to 3200k. The LED can work with your phone with the GVM app (the app is in the manual that comes with it), the app can use some improvement, luckily it is something that can be fixed with software updates, it seems to be a little glitchy and buggy at times. You do have 3 basic controls for the light, the temperature, the brightness, and the channel if you plan to control the light with a remote. Overall, this is an expensive light compared to a bowens mount LED video light, but the best thing about is that it is light, works on battery, has no fans, and does not need a huge soft box. So if you do a lot of traveling and on site video shoots, this will be a great video light and would worth the money for what it gives you.

I have a bunch of GVM RGB lights and decided to get a Bi-Color this time for more power without having to share any RGB LEDs on the board with the CCT ones… Bought this Kit for easier portability whenever I don’t want to bring heavy panels, or smaller jobs. This is so far, the brightest 1X1 panel GVM makes. They didn’t waste ant space on that It’s packed with 1200+ LEDs. Usually, there are two types of LED panels. This model features a lens type LED, designed for a more powerful light throw whenever you need to light far away subjects. It’s NOT a spot light, its a 45 degree beam. With the diffuser applied, it becomes a wider light and it’s pretty decent for diffusing light. But if you want to use these panels as a key light, I’d suggest you add an extra layer of diffusion to make the light even soft and BIGGER, acting like a softbox, which it has two layers of diffusion. I’m glad GVM still included a heavier diffuser panel (the ones that slide and protect the LEDs as well) because the new GVM lights now are coming with a lesser grade diffusers which provides more light output with the diffuser on, but id trade less light for more diffusion. If you want a LOT of light, remove the diffuser. But the primary thing I do using these square panels is to light backdrops, random objects and splashing light in other rooms for Real Estate photography. But it works as a key light especially if what you’re looking for is dramatic lighting (Some diffusion and contrast). Want more diffusion and a bigger light source from this panel? Again…add an extra layer of diffusion. A Gel sheet costs very little money. I’d suggest a Rosco #3008 Tough Medium Cinegel Filter (20 x 24 Sheet) BH# RO3008S Another thing I noticed it that this model doesn’t come included the second diffuser GVM usually included, I guess, it’s only included in their RGB series such as the GVM 50-RS, 110-S etc. Since this is a Kit,I also wish it came with a case type that will accommodate not only the lights, but will also house its stands, power supply etc. The GVM 50-RS Kit comes with a case and both light panels are the same size…. The Master / Slave feature is extremely easy to use. Set 1 panel as a Master, and multiple others as Slave as long as they are on the same CHANNEL. You can also divide them in groups, as long as there is at least 1 unit set as a Master, then doing the same to other groups. The only thing you have to do different is to change the channel number for each group. The App works great. It’s a WIFI based App. If i could suggest GVM, it’s better if the App was operated via Blue Tooth as it would leave my iPhone still available to receive my emails, and any other messages, plus Blue Tooth proved to be more stable in connection. Once your phone locks, for some reason, I have to relaunch the App… Overall, for the power it provides, the portability I can have without breaking my back and quickly setting those up, I think it’s a great investment.
